Support Spotlight: Have you set-up your SAP Business One Inventory Accounts correctly?

Do you sometimes find that the total value per G/L Account is not the same as the value of the actual Inventory Account, when running the Inventory Audit Report by G/L Accounts?

Do you sometimes find that there are seemingly incorrect Journal Entries related to Inventory documents?

One of the main reasons for these discrepancies is the incorrect determination of the Inventory Account at the following locations in SAP Business One:

  •  G/L account determination
  •  Item Group
  • Warehouse
  •  Item Master Data
  •  Advanced G/L account determination

Did you know that SAP has a script to check if the Inventory Account set-up is correct?

All you need to do is run the script attached to SAP Note 1461889, if there are any results it means that there are one or more accounts set-up incorrectly. We recommend to review and correct the account set-up together with the company accountant. Once there are no more results for the script the accounts are set-up correctly.

Review and optimization of inventory account-set is a recommended way of preventing accounting issues for example, the same G/L account is used for both debit and credit side within a single Journal Entry, resulting in no Journal Entry at all.
